Chandelle Waugh
Artist Statement
What stimulates my artwork is personal connection to pertinent issues in modern day society. Obsolete views, inequality, politics, feminism, sexism and current affairs are what make my practice thrive. Confronting a considerable amount of unfortunate or difficult happenings in life, I use these life experiences to fuel my understanding and emotional connections to my work.
Un-traditional materials for me have a certain integrity and allow me to create thought provoking artworks. I appreciate the relation between material and subject matter, these have a strong connection to how someone interprets your piece visually and connects with it.
I use my artwork to highlight issues, something that will connect with an audience and create a sense of understanding. I believe that thorough research, life experience and general understanding of an issue and how I choose to represent it is vital in creating artwork that really pulls on your heart strings.
