Artist Statement
The work I create tends to be sociologically driven, usually inspired by the joy I get from evoking reactions or generally irritating and bewildering people. I like tones (or a plethora) of humour in my art as well as confusing elements and tend to use quite stylised and off-putting visuals.
People watching and my interest in human behaviour has been apparent throughout my work and social life. I have always had a keen interest in how people act and behave and how to gauge reactions from them, my work mainly uses humour and satire to convey my concept or evoke response. Putting the big words aside, I just want to bother people…with art.
My challenge to myself as an artist is to do these three things, make humorous sculptures and installations that potentially play with “the humans” minds, to take the most mundane and unstudied aspects of everyday life and turn them in to big over the top artworks and finally to irritate the humans. I believe that the small moments in life that nobody ever talks about can be just as important and as worth noting as the things we never stop talking about.
